Corryong Neighbourhood Centre
Committee Members
Tom Newton (Chair)
I am a retired Postal Manager with Australia Post in various locations in NSW and Victoria. My community involvement includes being a Justice of the Peace and on several other Corryong committees and I am a keen gardener. I have been a Committee member for the past 5 years and my current position is Chairman. It is satisfying to experience the CNC’s development and growth.
Thea Newton (Secretary)
I am a retired Office Manager and Aged Care Supervisor -working in both NSW and Victoria. I am involved in many community organizations and am a keen gardener. I was on the Corryong Neighbourhood House committee and stayed on when the CEC (Corryong Education Centre) and the Neighbourhood House merged. My current position is Secretary. It is rewarding to see the growth of the CNC into a real community centre, catering for everyone, but especially for our youth to receive training and employment.
Faye Whitehead (Treasurer)
I came to the district in 1961 as a teacher from the Mildura Area. Prior to retiring from state education, I joined the Corryong Education Centre as I was interested in furthering adult education in the Upper Murray. So I have been involved through the amalgamation of the two groups that form the current CNC and been part of the necessary changes as governments change their responses to adult education in the communities throughout the state and Australia. These changes have meant that the CNC have had to think outside of the box for survival. It is satisfying to see the changing direction of our committee and its responsibilities as we put in place structures for a developing community. It is a great pleasure to see that the CNC is considered to be successful and progressive by higher authorities thus being asked to present to other organisations as trend setters.
Lesley Evans - (General Committee)
After I retired from Dairy Farming, I worked off the farm as an Agricultural Trainer in Kyabram until 2011 when we moved to the Upper Murray. I have always been involved with education, training and community activities. Joining this community based Committee about 4 years ago, I felt with my experience I could contribute in a positive way.
